25th Annual Chicago CROP Hunger Walk Announces Honorary Chairpersons
Press Conference Scheduled, Wednesday, October 10 at 1:00 P.M.


Chicago, IL.
Organizers announced the 2007 Honorary Chairpersons for the 25th Anniversary of the Chicago CROP Hunger Walk. A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. The event is open to all media and will take place at the Marcy Newberry Association located at 1073 West Maxwell Street, Chicago.

The CROP Hunger Walk, hosted by Agape House Ministries at UIC will be held at the UIC Student Center East at 750 S. Halsted on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 1:00 PM. The event will have live band “Last Minute Music” and performances by the Jesse White Tumblers. Organizers also plan to have a Silent Auction and prizes and raffles for “Top Walkers” who raise over $100.00 for the event.

The CROP Hunger Walk is expected to have 1000 walkers and raise $100,000 to combat poverty and hunger through local agencies and international agencies such as Church World Service. Since 1984 the Chicago CROP Walk has raised more than $1,250,000 for hunger and poverty fighting efforts in Chicago and around the world. Local hunger agencies that have benefited from the event include: Marcy Newberry Association; Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation; Chicago Uptown Ministries; Episcopal Hunger Commission; Archdiocese of Chicago, Peace & Justice Office; Presbytery of Chicago Hunger Mission Team; Comedor Popular; Interfaith Council for the Homeless and Humboldt Park Social Services.

Honorary Chairpersons for the 2007 CROP Hunger Walk include: Rev. Dr. John Buchanan, Senior Pastor, Fourth Presbyterian Church; Rev. Dr. Philip L. Blackwell , Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple; Mayor Richard M. Daley, Mayor of the City of Chicago; Rev. Dr. Jane Fisler Hoffman, Illinois Conference Minister, United Church of Christ; Rev. Dr. Robert C. Reynolds , Executive Presbyter, Presbytery of Chicago and Rev. Alexander Sharp, Executive Director, Protestants for the Common Good.

The distinguished group of chairpersons joins a long list of luminaries who have served as the Honorary Chairpersons in the past. Included in that group are past Mayor of Chicago, Harold Washington, who walked in the 1984 event; former Chicago Sports Announcer, Tim Weigle; Merchant Mart Executive, Christopher Kennedy and the late Joseph Cardinal Bernardin of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
